Acton was settled in 1825 and was first named Danville, the name was later changed to Adamsville after 3 Saddlebag Methodist Preachers settled named Rev. Ezra, Rev. Zenas, and Rufas Adams, who came to farm.
Rev. Zenas Adams was the first to preach a sermon in the locality. He held the services at his home on the corner of Main and Church Street.
Ezra Adams lived on Bower Avenue and later moved to Drayton. While Rufas Adams wife opened the first school in 1826 where Know Church now stands.
Eliphalet Adams, yet anothe brother also moved to Adamsville, and his son Phineas who died at the age of 31 in 1830 mave have been the first grave in the Pioneer Cemetary located behind Knox Church.
The Adams brothers dammed up Black Creek to create the Mill pond where they built and powered a saw mill and later powered the Flour mill which is still here today. The mill pond was named "Fairy Lake" by Sarah Secord which surrounds Prospeck Park.
In 1846, local Postmaster Robert Swan renamed the community after the area of Acton in West London, England. Acton is originally part of Esquesing Township, and was incorporated into a village in 1874.
In January of 1974, Acton became part of the Town Of Halton Hills when it was amalgamated with the Town Of Georgetown and most of the Township Of Esquesing.
Acton is located on Hwy 7 and hwy 25 between Georgetown and Guelph. just north of Milton and Hwy 401.
Acton also know as Halton Hills is a thriving and growing community, Over the last few years many businesses and ammenities have come to support the area such as Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, Giant Tiger, Indoor Soccer Field, New Arena facility which includes soccer field, skate park and trail system.
